Panasonic 3D video cameras – Panasonic 3D Camcorder Reviews

Panasonic 3D video camcorder reviewSince you are reading this, the chances are that you already know that the world’s first 3D video camera was produced by Panasonic. It was the Panasonic HDC-SDT750 that was released in fall of 2010. Since then, several Panasonic 3D video cameras have been released to the market.

Newer Panasonic 3D video camera models

Something that is noteworthy about these Panasonic 3D camcorder models is that they are 3D compatible video cameras. In other words, you need to attach a 3D conversion lens such as the Panasonic VW-CLT1 3D Converter Lens for you to be able to shoot 3D videos. Depending on how you look at it, it can be an advantage or disadvantage. The fact that you have to carry this extra 3D lens can be bothersome and upon attaching the camcorder becomes pretty bulky. However, it also gives you the option of using it as a standalone ‘regular’ 2D video camera which can be useful. You don’t need to worry about carrying a separate ‘handycam’ for 2D purposes!

Following is a list of such Panasonic 3D video cameras available in the market

  • Panasonic HDC-SDT750
  • Panasonic HDC-TM90K 3D Compatible Camcorder
  • Panasonic HDC-TM900K MOS 3D Compatible Camcorder
  • Panasonic HDC-SD90K 3D Compatible SD Memory Camcorder
  • Panasonic HDC-SD800K 3 MOS Twin Memory 3D Compatible Camcorder
  • Panasonic HDC-HS900K 3 MOS 220GB HDD 3D Compatible Camcorder

Below we will outline the main features of these 3D camcorders

Something that is important to note however is that some of the advanced features such as Full HD resolution only works with 2-D recording. The 3D picture is not too different as most of them share the same 3D converter lens. So it’s probably best that you look at these features in a 2D video recording point of view unless you were looking at a devoted 3D video camera such as the Sony HDR-TD10 3-D camcorder.

No Optical Zoom or Full HD in 3D mode on the Panasonic 3D video cameras

Don’t forget that if you want to shoot 3d movies with any of these Panasonic video cameras (except the HDC-SDT750), that you need a Panasonic VW-CLT1 Panasonic 3D conversion Lens.

What you need to realize is that all of above fancy features are to do with regular, real world 2D video recording. None of these Panasonic 3D camcorders (with the 3D conversion lens attached) are able to zoom (optical zoom) while recording in 3D. Also none of these Panasonic 3D video cameras listed above are able to record 3D video in Full HD resolution. If you are interested in these two features (Full HD and optical zooming in while recording in 3D mode), you need to check out the Sony HDR-TD10 3D Full HD Handycam or the JVC 3D Full HD video camera.

We highly recommend you read this 3D camcorder review which compares the 4 types of 3D video cameras. Also don’t forget to check out our Panasonic HDC SDT-750 vs Sony HDR-TD10 3D video camera comparison. However, these camcorders are pretty expensive and if you are looking for a more economical 3D camcorder, you may want to check out our Aiptek 3D camcorder review.
